Nearly 500 people attended the recent launch of The Court – part of the pioneering new Buckshaw Retirement Village for the over 55s in Chorley, Lancashire.

Specially invited guests included the Mayor of Chorley, Councillor Terry Brown, and Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle.

Sales and Marketing Director Irene Heffernan said: “Visitors were amazed at the quality and scope of the facilities. They thought they would be looking only at apartments so they were surprised to see all the health and leisure facilities which are available. They then realised that they would be buying into a complete change of lifestyle and we gained a number of firm reservations, which we are really pleased about, particularly considering the difficult economic climate.”

“People came from a 100 mile radius of Chorley. Many of them own three or four bedroom properties and are looking to downsize so that they can save on household bills and also be part of a real community where they will also feel safe and secure. A large majority of these visitors are now planning to return with their families, so that they can show them the development, and we also have a significant number of people who want to take advantage of our assisted move scheme to help them sell their own properties,” she added.

The Court’s comprehensive range of on-site facilities includes a gymnasium, hair and beauty salon, bowling green, bistro, library, IT suite and shop.

Visitors attending the public open days were able to take advantage of free wellness checks, guided tours, afternoon tea and a prize draw for a food hamper worth £200.

Maria Baker, Buckshaw Retirement Village’s recently appointed “House Doctor”, was on hand to give advice, and financial advisers were also available to answer any queries from prospective purchasers. Residents at The Court will have an emergency call system so they can be confident of a response, day or night. There is also CCTV within the grounds, and a village team will be on hand to deal with the day to day running of the village.
