Staff and residents of The Lodge specialist dementia unit at Buckshaw Retirement Village, Chorley, recently raised over £500 for the Alzheimer’s Society by taking part in a Memory Walk in Blackpool.

The Memory Walk is the Alzheimer’s Society’s biggest annual event to raise money to support people with dementia and their carers.

About 30 staff and residents of The Lodge covered a 3.5 mile route from Blackpool’s North Pier to the South Pier and back again. They were accompanied by the Buckshaw Village Youth Band who performed along the route.

One walker who certainly did not find the event taxing was 13-year-old Shireen Durnan, sister of Chris Durnan, Team Leader at The Lodge. Shireen, who lives in Chorley, climbed Mount Olympus during the Olympic Games four years ago, has completed the Three Peaks Walk, climbed Mount Etna, walked around Ayers Rock in 100 degree heat and crossed the bridge over the River Kwai.
