Lodge Representatives Invited To Top Dementia Conference

Two representatives of The Lodge specialist dementia care unit at Buckshaw Retirement Village, Chorley, have been invited to take part in a top dementia conference later this month.

Lorraine Haining, Head of Dementia Services, and Penni Brown, Operations Director, will lead a workshop on designing for dementia care at the UK Dementia Congress, which will be held from October 28 to 30 in Bournemouth.

The congress will provide the first professional analysis of the National Dementia strategy, and speakers will include the Minister for Care Services, Ivan Lewis MP.

Lorraine said: “The UK Dementia Congress is the country’s most important conference within the field of dementia care, and the invitation for us to take part highlights the impact that The Lodge is making within such a short time of its opening.”

“I will be providing examples of features at The Lodge which emphasise best practice in designing for people with dementia, and Penni will talk about the concept of The Lodge and the research that was carried out to make this pioneering project possible,” she added.

Design features at The Lodge include:

• The use of colour to support residents with orientation and to reinforce their own identity and independence.
