The Grange Hopes to Strike Gold

Staff and residents from The Grange at Buckshaw Retirement Village near Chorley are hoping to clinch a gold award after reaching the finals of a national scheme.

They have definitely gained either a bronze, silver or gold award in the Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC) Housing for Older People Awards 2010 but will not know which they have won until they attend the national awards ceremony, which takes place in London on 4 February. The Grange came through a field of 540 entries to earn their place as one of 33 finalists attending the national ceremony at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Donna Quarmby, Residents’ Services Manager at The Grange, said: “It’s particularly pleasing that it was the residents themselves who put The Grange forward for an award. As part of their application, they answered questions about the level of care at The Grange, the design of the building and the activities they take part in.” The Grange offers an alternative for people who need assistance but don’t want to move into a traditional care home. Residents have their own studio or apartment and are supported in their daily activities, providing a balance between independence and support. Residents at The Grange have facilities which include a 24 hour emergency response system, a wellness centre with hydrotherapy pool, a convenience shop, restaurant, and housekeeping and linen service. Optional care packages are also available.
