Pioneering New Dementia Care Facility Opens

People came from all parts of the UK to attend a series of public open days and trade partnership days held recently at The Lodge, the pioneering new dementia care facility within Buckshaw Retirement Village at Chorley.

Over 140 people looked around The Lodge during its recent open weekend, and after that it was the turn of industry professionals to give the new facility the once over. Voluntary organisations, Primary Care Trusts, Social Services Departments, GPs and local authorities all gave the new facility a massive vote of confidence.

Lorraine Haining, Head of Dementia Services at The Lodge, said: "People were astounded by the quality and the facilities available for the residents, particularly from the point of view of the quality of the building, the services we provide and the knowledge of the team at The Lodge. We have already had a number of firm reservations."

"The public and partnership days could not have gone any better and we are delighted that so many people took the chance to see what we offer. We had many people with family members who have dementia and they felt their relatives were clearly reaching the point where they need to move to a facility that can not only cater for their needs but also help to enrich the quality of their life," she added.

Part of the £45 million Buckshaw Retirement Village, The Lodge provides
next-generation care for people with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, and is the most advanced facility of its type in Europe.
