The Lodge is a state of the art care home which specialises in Nursing Care and Residential Care for people who are living with a Dementia related illness, including Alzheimer’s Disease, Lewy Body Dementia, Picks Disease and Frontal Lobe Dementia.
At the Lodge, we recognise that dementia can be a debilitating and challenging condition for a person to live with and experience. We also recognise that the progression of the illness within a person is also devastating for their family and friends to witness. However, at the Lodge, we pride ourselves on our approach to Dementia Care which focuses on the person’s strengths and abilities and promoting their continued independence. For the people in our care we endeavour to promote feelings of purpose, empowerment, fulfilment, and satisfaction in their lives, whilst supporting them with whatever needs and wants they have.

We also appreciate that due to the disabilities dementia can impose on people, especially in the areas of understanding and communication, some people experience feelings of anxiety, frustration, anger and fear. Unfortunately, these are not always recognised by those involved in their care, or they do not have the experience, expertise or environment to reduce these feelings. Therefore these feelings manifest themselves in what is often referred to as aggressive, unpredictable, violent outbursts which are as upsetting to the person as they are to their loved ones and carers.
Our ethos at The Lodge is to recognise these feelings and their causes while at the same time promoting a person’s sense of purpose, empowerment, fulfilment, and satisfaction and in doing so reduce the negative feelings, and therefore the “challenging behaviours”, that become apparent as a result.
We have a highly skilled team of both Registered Mental Health Nurses and care support workers who are determined and motivated to deliver the highest quality of person centred care in an environment that is spacious, modern, unrestrictive and clean; an environment that is designed in conjunction with Sterling University to meet the complex needs of people living with dementia.
